Day 2 - World Youth Day

In the Steps of Our Founder

Yesterday we arrived in Bordeaux and traveled a half a mile through the Cemetery of St. Bruno to the gravesite of  Blessed William Joseph Chaminade. There we  prayed, sang songs, and were moved by the grandeur of the visit to the grave of the Founder of the Society of Mary who reminded us that, "We are all missionaries."

Two of our Province of Meribah pilgrims placed flowers at Blessed Chaminade's grave. We were also blessed to have with our group, Mrs. Rachel Lozano, whose miraculous cure may advance the cause of canonization of Blessed Chaminade.

Later we visited Blessed Chaminade's birthplace (Perigueux) before we arrived at Lourdes.

The joy we all have today is a vital part of the Christian spiritual life. The humor and laughter we shared are divine gifts that help us enjoy creation. The great men and women of the Church understood this, and I would guess that the man whose first miracle was to turn water into wine also understood the need for some high spirits in life understood it as well.
