It will cost

There are many things in life that are important.

Jesus says there's only one thing important. One thing.

That one thing is our - souls. "What good will it be for a man if he gain the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?"  If all our education has taught us nothing but this, it is worth it: What we are inside is more important than who we are on the outside. The riches of the soul are worth more than the wealth of the world. When we learn that, we've learned all there is to know. Forget all you learned in kindergarten, forget Life's Little Instruction Book, forget Oprah, forget Bill Gates. Remember Jesus: "What profit is there, if you gain the world but lose your soul?" End of story.

What happens in our lives makes all the difference. We are asked to resist the temptation to follow the expectations of others and opt instead to live up to the expectations of Jesus the Christ. This will cost. Life costs, especially when it is a life lived with integrity.

Let's review those costs again.

The decision to follow Jesus: expensive. Could run into years of self-denial and even death.

Abundant life blessed with the Creator who treasures us, the Christ who saves us and the Spirit who sustains us: priceless.
